TWO properties in Wokingham have been served closure notices by Thames Valley Police and Wokingham Borough Council.
A full closure order was granted for a property in Norreys Avenue by Reading Magistrates’ Court on last Wednesday (26), and a partial closure order was granted for another property in the same street under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.
A partial order was also imposed on a property in Mount Lane, Bracknell, by the same court last Thursday.
The action was taken after reports to police of criminal behaviour and disorder associated with the properties and surrounding area.
The orders are in place for a period of three months from the date of issue and excludes anyone from entering the property, including the occupants, for the full closure order, and anyone except the occupant and authorised persons for the partial closures.
The closure orders were the result of a joint working initiative between the Bracknell and Wokingham policing team’s anti-social behaviour officer, Wokingham Borough Council and the Bracknell neighbourhood policing team.
PC Maryann Shaw of the Early Intervention Policing Team stated: “The closure orders are designed to reduce anti-social behaviour suffered by other residents in the area. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue to work with partner agencies to tackle these types of issues.”
Cllr Julian McGhee Sumner, WBC’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Wokingham Borough Council work closely with partners to reduce and prevent anti-social behaviour in its communities. The closure orders will bring relief to communities that have suffered anti-social behaviour over a sustained period of time. I would like to place on record our gratitude to members of the community who have bravely stood up to the perpetrators of this behaviour.”
Anyone affected by anti-social behaviour can contact the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 and ask to speak to the local neighbourhood team.
