A FUNERAL home in Berkshire is providing support to bereaved families this festive season.
Co-op Funeralcare Bracknell has unveiled its ‘bereavement tree’ in response to a recent study by 3Gem, which found that 58% of those who have suffered a bereavement find calendar events like Christmas challenging.
“For those who have experienced a bereavement, Christmas can bring memories back to the surface and make the absence of a loved one feel even more profound,” said Mike Pengelly, director of regional operations.
“That’s why we’ve started the bereavement tree initiative, providing a comforting space for reflection and togetherness.”
The scheme invites members of the local community to decorate the tree with a picture, message, or ornament in memory of their loved ones.
The tree offers a space for reflection and remembrance, and Co-op Funeralcare hopes it will encourage conversation with their team.
“Our role within the community goes beyond arranging funerals,” Mike said.
“We want to remind people that they are not alone, that there is support and a space to be heard.
“Sometimes the smallest gesture of remembrance can bring comfort during challenging times.”
Co-op, one of the world’s largest consumer co-operatives, runs more than 800 funeral homes in addition to their nearly 2,400 food stores.
As a co-operative, Co-op is involved in a variety of community-led programmes, and is owned by millions of UK consumers.
People can place a picture, message, or ornament in memory of their loved ones, during the Bracknell branch’s opening hours.
