A FLAT in a Wokingham almshouse has become vacant.
Wokingham United Charities, which owns and runs Westende Almshouses is looking for a new resident to join their community.
Westende Manager Lynda Rowe provides pastoral support to the residents and looks after the building.
She said: “We have a wonderful vacancy in our Almshouse community, and we’re looking for a new resident, or residents, to join us.
“If you, or someone you know, is in need of affordable housing and would benefit from living in a supportive and friendly environment, we invite you to apply.”
Located in Peach Street, Westende Almshouses are close to shops and a short walk from other facilities.
There are 27 flats within two blocks, with well-maintained gardens.
Each flat has its own private front door, a spacious living room, double bedroom, modern fitted kitchen, bathroom with walk-in shower, and generous storage space.
Designed for older people unable to afford to buy or rent in Wokingham, the apartments are suitable for couples or single residents.
A monthly maintenance charge, set below the local housing allowance level for the borough, covers accommodation, heating and hot water charges.
Wokingham United Charities is proud of the sense of community its residents enjoy, and hosts social events for them throughout the year, such as its annual summer strawberry tea, and Christmas dinner in the communal lounge.
Weekly activities include coffee and cake mornings, craft afternoons, bingo, and fish and chip Thursdays.
A laundry room is available for residents’ use, and a guest room can be booked at reasonable cost for visitors.
Applicants must live in Wokingham Borough, or have immediate family living here.
Wokingham United Charities invites people to contact them, will be interviewing applicants the week commencing Monday, July 22.
