Taylor Wimpey West London has partnered with a local contractor to repair the pavilion at the Crowthorne & Wokingham Without NMI (National Men’s Institute) Men’s Shed.
The housebuilder helped give the group’s building a spruce up, working with D. Adams and Sons Roofing Ltd to repair a leaking roof and replacing several windows after an appeal was made by James Sunderland MP, Member of Parliament for Bracknell.
The group’s new home, on Holmbury Avenue, Crowthorne, was previously derelict before being resurrected as a workshop with the purpose of reducing social isolation and loneliness.
Following the repairs, the Crowthorne & Wokingham Without Men’s Shed now has a weatherproof building where the 35 member strong hub provides men with a social space to make friends, learn new skills and share their experiences and concerns.
Peter Keigan, chairman of Crowthorne & Wokingham Without NMI Men’s Shed, said: “For the last four years we’ve been looking for our own building that will give the Crowthorne and Wokingham community a space for men to socialise and engage in activities together, as well as benefit from emotional support from their peers.
“We’re really grateful for the action taken by Taylor Wimpey and D. Adams & Sons Roofing Ltd to help repair our facility.
“I’d also like to thank James Sunderland MP for his ongoing support.`”
Paul Turner, production director at Taylor Wimpey West London, said: “The Men’s Shed Association is a special organisation which helps bring men of all ages together.
“As soon as we learned of the roofing issues they were facing we were proud to take action, in coordination with James Sunderland MP.
“We wish the Crowthorne & Wokingham Without NMI Men’s Shed all the very best as they begin their vitally important work .”
Joe Keefe, site manager at Taylor Wimpey West London’s The Evergreens development, said: “I’m really pleased to have been able to be closely involved in this project, and to learn that our repairs have been of significant help to the Men’s Shed as they open up to the local community.”
The new Mens Shed is open for men who’d like to join, or who want to drop in to find out more.
