A small Berkshire based-charity that helps children and young people affected by bereavement, has found itself in the limelight.
Daisy’s Dream was selected to feature in this year’s BBC Children in Need campaign.
A BBC crew visited the charity to explore the real impact of its work, and to meet some of the young people it supports.
The crew filmed five young people who have all lost a sibling and attended a group for children and young people who have been bereaved by the death of a sibling.
Called SAFE, the Daisy’s Dream group stands for Sharing, Acceptance, Friendship, and Empathy.
“For many children and young people, talking about grief can feel incredibly difficult,” said Jade from Daisy’s Dream.
“Finding the words to describe loss, sadness, confusion, or the ways life has changed, takes courage.
“Yet on this day, the children who took part showed remarkable bravery, sharing their experiences with honesty, emotion, and clarity.
“Their stories were powerful, as they spoke about their brothers and sisters, about missing them, and about how grief can feel heavy and overwhelming.
“But they also spoke about connection — about how being supported, listened to, and understood can make all the difference.”

Claire, one of Daisy’s Dream’s therapeutic practitioners was also filmed on the day.
She expressed how moved the team were by the young people’s openness:
“Myself, Philippa and Wendy are incredibly proud of all the young people who took part in our special film for Children in Need.
“They were so brave, talking about their brothers and sisters, and describing how hard their grief feels.
“We thought they were amazing and can’t wait for everyone to see the programme.”
Daisy’s Dream supports children preparing for loss, and works with them following the death of someone important to them.
Typically, the charity works with around 700 children every year, along with a further 800 adults.
This support is free of charge, and the group receives no statutory funding.
BBC Children in Need, featuring Daisy’s Dream, will be broadcast live from Salford, on BBC One on Friday, November 14, at 7pm.
The programme will be available afterwards on BBC iPlayer.
