It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of David John Wilson, aged 85, on August 6, 2025, at St. Margaret’s Nursing Home in Cornwall, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 29, 1940 in Northampton, David was the son of Stanley and Dora Wilson. David earned a degree in pure mathematics from Imperial College London before starting his career in 1961 with LEO Computers (later Fujitsu), the pioneering company that developed the world’s first business computer. Over the next 35 years, David built a distinguished career in the industry he loved. He remained with Fujitsu until 1995 before spending his final decade of work with the Environment Agency in Reading.
David’s life outside work was filled with a variety of hobbies. He taught swimming, coached synchronized swimming and was a frequent examiner and coach at Lifesaving events. He was an avid gardener, crafted challenging pub quiz questions and was a passionate genealogist.
Despite living with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis for over three decades, David frequently travelled to Canada after his retirement to visit his son and grandchildren, trips he treasured. He was fiercely independent, intelligent, and steadfast in living out his life in his own home.
David is survived by his brother Peter (Brenda), his children Nicola (Mike) and Adrian (Jackie) and grandchildren Rosie and Isaac.
The family extends heartfelt thanks especially to the staff of Loving Angels Care, who looked after David at home for more than five years, and to David’s neighbours Judy, Sara, and Pete, whose kindness and watchfulness meant so much.David was cremated on the 14th August, and a celebration of life will be held in The Three Frogs, London Road Wokingham on 17th September 6pm – 8pm.
