Reading FC opened their campaign in the EFL Trophy with a defeat to rivals Swindon Town.
The Royals went into the game on a run of four games unbeaten having won their first league match of the season by beating Port Vale on Saturday.
The visitors fell behind inside 11 minutes when Princewill Ehibhatiomhan, brother of Reading’s Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, put Swindon ahead.
The Robins doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Ollie Palmer before Reading showed some spirit to mount a comeback before the break.
Liam Fraser’s long strike hit the post and then deflected off goalkeeper Lewis Ward to find the net.
New signing Jack Marriott then opened his account in a Reading shirt with his goal for the club to make it 2-2 before the break.
But it was Swindon who took the points in the first group game of the competition with a stunning free-kick from Will Wright.
Reading came close to finding a 90th minute leveller when a Swindon defender headed the ball off his own crossbar.
Reading’s next League One game comes on Saturday, September 13th after the international break when they face Barnsley away from home.
