A GROUP of readers in Wokingham will focus on waddling sea birds in March.
Angela Wade will be giving a talk to members of Wokingham Literary Society.
Called Penguin Books her lecture is not, however, about the publishing house.
Instead it will look at the ways in which penguins capture our attention through the works of three diverse authors.
Referring to literary tales of the social, tuxedoed, torpedo-shaped water birds, Angela will explore the tense, threatening, charming and heartwarmingly human emotions they evoke in us.
Taking a waddle along with three authors, she will focus on: Away With The Penguins, by Hazel Prior; Death and The Penguin, by Andrey Kurkov; and The Penguin Lessons, by Tom Michell.
Wokingham Literary Society offers a varied programme of monthly talks, and describes itself as a friendly group of people who love reading.
Members don’t need to have any experience of Literature, just curiosity and an enjoyment of reading.
The organisation runs monthly meetings from September to May, with a different topic discussed each month.
Members can also enjoy a monthly ‘I Have Been Reading’ online group, and a poetry reading programme.
Events take place at the Lecture Room of Wokingham Baptist Church from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.
Usually these are on the third Thursday of the month, but the next meeting will be on Thursday, March 12.
Visitors are always welcome.
