A PREVIEW of a new album that focuses on life at the margins and transitional spaces will be given in Wokingham on Friday, November 3.
Folk duo Philip Henry and Hannah Martin are now known as the musical group Edgelarks and their appearance, at All Saints Church, will showcase tracks from their latest collaboration.
Much of their new album was conceived during an Australian tour last year.
Although only one song, Signposts, is directly inspired by their time down under, the warmth and new inspiration of their travels can be heard throughout the work on Edgelarks.
The duo said that it focuses on people and times, the straddling of boundaries and thresholds; crossroads and borderlands; travellers and refugees; dusk and dawn.
The album does feature several unusual instruments. The one that is completely new to the duo is the pedal powered shruti box – this is a drone instrument, originally from India, and usually played by hand.
For their Wokingham date, they will be joined by John Elliott from The Little Unsaid. He also features on the album: on Song of the Jay, for example, he used samples of the call of a jay to create a synthesiser that underpins the track.
