Chilterns Cricket League Premier 2: Frieth 1st XI (219-9) beat Emmbrook and Bearwood 1st XI (70 all out)
Emmbrook and Bearwood suffered a heavy defeat against high flying Frieth as they were beaten by 149 runs.
Frieth were put into bat first and Emmbrook made a superb start to their bowling campaign as Mark Cobb bowled out opener Iain McKenzie for just two runs. Cobb then continued his momentum to take his second wicket as Ahsan Maqbool was caught out by Jack Narraway on one run.
Emmbrook continued to threaten and they were rewarded as Matt Howarth caught and bowled Tayab Ilyas on 12 runs as the hosts maintained their brilliant start to put Frieth in trouble.
Cobb then took his third wicket of the day to remove Frieth captain Abdul Karim for five runs as Emmbrook removed the top order for a relatively low return in runs.
But Frieth stopped the flow of regular wickets and enjoyed a strong batting spell in the middle order. Saqib Ghafoor and Sufiyan Hussain both provided 20 runs to help add to Frieth’s total.
Mohammed Ayaz then knocked a decent innings of 37 before he was caught out by Cobb, bowled Howarth. Despite an impressive bowling and fielding display from Emmbrook, they were unable to keep Freith down to a low total thanks to a stunning knock from Ramzan Ghafoor as he smashed 90 runs for his side.
The visitors finished their innings on 219-9.
Emmbrook made a disastrous start to their chase as they experienced an early collapse in wickets.
Narraway was first to lose his wicket as he was bowled out by Hussain for a duck. His opening partner, Ollie Williams, was quick to follow having contributed only one run before also being bowled out by Hussain.
Ahsan Maqbool then began an onslaught as he ripped through the Emmbrook order with a fantastic bowling performance.
Maqbool took a remarkable seven wickets as he propelled Frieth towards a comfortable victory. Andrew Robertson provided some resistance and hit a respectable innings of 25 to put some runs on the board for Emmbrook, while Swinley added another 20 at the end of the innings, but they would still fall well short of the required total.
The final wicket fell with just 18.1 overs bowled with Emmbrook falling 149 runs short of the target with just 70 runs on the scoreboard. Emmbrook are in ninth place in the table with 11 games having been played.
