A CHARITY dedicated to rescuing abandoned horses in the borough is holding a Family Fun Day, which it hopes will delight visitors and bring in much needed funds for its work.
SAFE (Saving Abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines) looks after neglected horses and ponies, nursing them back to health and finding new homes for them.
Some of the rescued ponies will be at the Fun Day, where visitors can meet them and hear their stories.
Cassie, one of the organisers said: “We’re so excited about this year’s event.
“There will be lots to see and do, from visiting our local store holders, to meeting our ponies.
“We’ve got some reptiles coming too, and hopefully an owl charity, for people to enjoy getting up close to animals.”
The event will offer a variety of activities, including a dog show, donkey rides, a funfair, inflatables, mini golf, tombolas, and a raffle.
“People can contact us to buy raffle tickets in advance, as well as at the event – there are some amazing prizes to win.
“We usually have around 1,000 visitors for this, our major annual fundraiser, and we’re hoping for even more people to come this year.
“It’s so important to ensure that we can provide for our horses.
“We rely on people’s kind donations and grants entirely, and because we are all volunteers, every penny we raise goes to the care and wellbeing of our horses.”
A DJ will provide music to add to the fun, and visitors will be able to purchase refreshments, with onsite barbecue, tea and cakes, and a licensed bar all available.
The event takes place at Cantley Park, on Saturday, July 27, from 11am through to 5pm.
Entry costs £2 for adults, with under 18s free.
Parking is available, but drivers are asked to use town centre car parks, or to walk if possible.
