A WOKINGHAM singing group will perform music of the German Romantics at itsnext event.
Wokingham Choral Society’s spring concert is titled Sturm und Drang – German Romantic Myths and Legends.
The musical genre is filled with intense emotion, nature, folklore, and the supernatural.
It is characterised by rich harmony, intense expression, and pioneering orchestral techniques, including Leitmotifs.
Wokingham Choral Society’s concert will include Beethoven’s Mass in C and works by Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn and Humperdink.
The singers will be accompanied by Ben Giddens on the organ, and musicians from the Eastwood Chamber Orchestra.
The programme will be directed by George de Voil, and will feature four professional soloists.
Audiences will be able to hear: Schumann’s Manfred: Overture & Chorus of the Spirits; Schubert’s Rosamunde: Hunter’s Chorus; Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Titania’s Lullaby & Nocturnes (Numbers 3 & 7); Humperdinck’s – Hansel & Gretel: Abendsegen; and Beethoven’s Mass in C.
Wokingham Choral Society’s Spring Concert will take place at All Saints CHurch on Saturday, March 21.
The music begins at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £20, or £5 for under 18s and students.
