It is a real reflective moment
when I write this article every week.
This week, more than ever I am really feeling the reflective vibes… why you ask? Well, one simple answer; it’s February.
We are already in our second month of 2019 and it is quite scary to think how quick January has gone and that’s what I want to talk to you about today…
Looking back at the past to learn so that it aids in your tactics and implementation moving forward.
I have a quote written on my wall at The Hub in Wokingham that reads: “The past is a place to be learned from and not a home to be lived in”.
Take that quote in many ways but I read it as using your past to your advantage but don’t stay in it too long.
Doing the work that I do in the field of mental health and psychological well-being, I often see people and clients reliving their past or constantly being held back by things that happened in their past.
Your past is a place to be learned from and not a home to be lived in. This week and especially today I want you to focus on this first month of 2019, the last 4 weeks of January and be reflective.
- Have you achieved any of the goals you set at the beginning of January?
- How has the month gone compared with your thoughts several weeks ago?
- What has worked in the last few weeks?
- What hasn’t worked in the last few weeks?
- What habits have been installed and how effective have they been?
- What would you do differently In February compared with January?
- Were you realistic with the goals you set at the beginning of the month?
- Did you play it safe when setting your goals?
- What needs to happen to make further progress in February?
As you can see, there are many, many questions you could and should be asking at this important time of the year.
I see too many people that set goals but then don’t hold themselves accountable. I see too many people that are letting their lives control them rather than them controlling their lives.
Don’t be one of those people.
If you have been reading this column for some time then you are highly likely a very motivated and inspired person so make sure your behaviour matches those two attributes… Motivated and Inspired.
It comes down to taking half-an-hour today on your own without any distractions and just giving yourself some good honest time to reflect and then fill the gaps with a view to bossing February.
If you were a 7/10 for your state of Mind and emotional intelligence in January, what do you need to do to make it an 8/10?
Let’s say your nutrition was a 5/10 in January, what changes do you need to make to get to a 6/10?
If your morning ownership has been an amazing 9/10 this last month, what rituals do you need to tweak to get a 10/10?
Let’s say you did really well with your training these last few weeks and you made some good progress and scored a 7/10, what could you start doing or even just improve that would skyrocket you to an 8 or 9 out of 10?
Like most people in the UK, you have probably made some big changes in your environment in January and would give yourself a massive 9/10. We however set high standards, don’t we? What therefore could we do to make it a massive awesome 10/10?
How has your rest and recovery been treating you? Getting enough sleep? Doing enough stretching? Feeling energised each morning? What score would you give yourself for rest and recovery? What needs to happen to upgrade it?
It’s all about taking it that extra 1% each and every day.
I ask these questions and many more similar questions to my clients every week.
I got called “The master of putting people on the spot” last week which I found highly amusing.
Yes, I do like putting my clients on the spot and out the comfort zone but remember this is the area where growth occurs. Anyone can play it safe, but the real winners out there push themselves and ask questions that they don’t maybe want to answer.
They do however, because they want to improve.
- Do you want to be fitter?
- Do you want to be healthier?
- Do you want to have less body fat?
- Do you want to be stronger?
- Do you want to live longer?
I could go on, your goal is irrelevant… ask the questions, get reflective, be honest and get improving.
- Upgrade your skill set and elevate your life.
- Upgrade your standards and elevate your life.
- Upgrade your reflective capabilities and elevate your life.
Next week I will talk about inner dialogue, it’s going to get deep and it’s going to get personal, so get involved and keep your future at the forefront of your mental awareness.
Happy Sunday, see you next week.
