A CHARITY organisation is launching an online course to help girls and young women cope with challenge and change.
Lottery funding has enabled Rites For Girls CIC to offer reduced places on its Girls’ Net mental health programme.
The organisation says that since the pandemic girls across the nation have reported increased anxiety levels as a result of restricted social contact, interrupted schooling and uncertainty over the future.
the group has been given lottery funding to launch a six-week online programme to help address the issue, and is able to offer 50 places at a reduced rate.
The Girls’ Net course has been developed and piloted by Kim McCabe, founder of Rites for Girls CIC, and author of From Daughter to Woman, Parenting Girls Safely Through Their Teens.
The programme is aimed at girls aged eight to 18.
Kim McCabe said: “It’s designed to offer fun and support for girls as they grow up and manage the challenges of pre-teen and teen life.
“As a Girls’ Net mentor and mum of two of my own daughters, I am delighted to be bringing Girls’ Net to Berkshire.
“By the end of the programme girls will have some simple and practical yet powerful tools for managing their emotions, and will have benefited from a shared experience of non-judgemental support.”
Girls’ Net Mentor and mum of two girls Georgia Hutchinson, said: “When I saw this programme, I knew I had to be part of bringing Girls’ Net to as many girls in Berkshire and around the world as possible.
“I’ve seen first-hand the struggles and pressures our girls are facing – from what they see on social media, to their bodies changing, navigating friendship challenges, and managing the transition to secondary school.
“Girls’ Net is the support I would have loved to have had when I was a girl, and I’m delighted to be bringing it to girls here in Berkshire.
“Girls tell us that the course has given them down-to-earth tools to support them with their emotions, helped them feel more comfortable to be themselves, and that they’ve really enjoyed connecting with other girls in a warm and welcoming environment.
“All those from whom we received feedback said they would recommend Girls’ Net to others.”
Normally costing £100, 50 places on the online course are being offered at the subsidised rate of £20.
