FANS of classic rock from the 1980’s will love nothing more than a night out to see Rock of Ages says a Wokingham performance group.
Featuring songs from Bon Jovi, Poison, Europe, Twisted Sister and Journey, EBOS’s production promises fun, heart, and a lot of hair.
The company brings their rocking musical to the stage of The Wilde Theatre at South Hill Park, Bracknell this month.
A jukebox comedy musical, the original Broadway production in 2009 ran for more than 2,300 performances.
It takes place on the Sunset Strip of West Hollywood, in Dupree’s Bourbon Room – which has seen better days.
The bar is run by former rock god Dennis Dupree and his assistant Lonny, who also serves as the shows’ narrator.
And when bright-eyed Sherrie Christian rolls into town, bumping into Bourbon Room barback Drew, a love story begins.
But with the mayor of West Hollywood scheming with German real estate developers to demolish the strip, Drew, Sherrie, Dennis and Lonny need everyone they can think of to help save the day.
Even rock icon Stacee Jaxx, and protestor Regina Koontz play their part.
Director James Lole said: We are delighted to bring Rock of Ages to the stage at the Wilde Theatre.
“From the day we held auditions last December, I knew that our talented cast would bring you something very special.
They have been rehearsing for the last few months and have had so much fun.
“Many of them weren’t even born in the 80s, but these songs are so well known it’s impossible not to get caught up in the excess and enjoyment of the time.
“And the production and technical teams have worked so hard to ensure the sights, sounds (and smells) of the era are perfectly recreated.”
It’s a show that regularly breaks the ‘fourth wall’, with Lonny directly addressing the audience, and the company often forgetting that they are actors in a musical.
And the band plays a major role too, dressed in full metalhead costumes and performing as Stacee Jaxx’s band Arsenal throughout the show.
Audiences won’t want to miss this opportunity to sing along to classic songs – and Friday is 80’s Dress Up Night, with prizes for the best dressed.
It’s going to be a rocking night out, says EBOS.
Rock of Ages can be seen at the Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park, Bracknell, from Tuesday, May 13 through to Saturday, May 17.
Doors open at 7.45pm every evening, with an additional Saturday matinee performance at 2.30pm.
