FC Bracknell U10 Lions mad it yet another season to remember as they won the Berkshire County League Cup final for the second season in a row.
On Saturday, May 17 at Ascot United;s ground, Fc Bracknell Lions faced Shinfield Rangers in the BCGL cup final.
The game started at 12:05 and straight away you could see that both teams desperately wanted the win, with early chances for both teams and players working extremely hard all over the pitch.
Ten minutes in and Bella chased what looked like a nothing pass heading for a goal kick into the far corner and managed to keep the ball in play. She went for the cross and it was blocked by a Shinfield defender that resulted in FC Bracknell’s first corner of the game.
Mila stepped up to take the corner and it managed to sail straight into the back of the Shinfield net and the deadlock was broken to make it 1-0 to FC Bracknell.
Shinfield then stepped it up a gear as they were looking for a quick equaliser but thanks to some excellent defending and a couple of brilliant saves by Star, FC Bracknell were able to finish the half without conceding.
Onto the second half and it started exactly the same as the first. Both teams having chances and Shinfield were not giving up without a fight.
Half way through the second half the ball fell to a Shinfield defender who struck the ball with all her might. The ball travelled a good 25 yards and bounced just before the FC Bracknell keeper and bounced into the top corner to make it 1-1.
It looked like the game was destined for a penalty shoot out. A big chance fell to FC Bracknell as a ball was played through to Mila who had a quick first time shot that just missed the goal.
Then it was Shinfield’s turn when they had a free kick around 15 yards out. The free kick was struck with so much pace and narrowly missed the goal. The FC Bracknell coach Matt was planning for a penalty shoot out he asked the ref how long was left. Less than 60 seconds replied the ref. Just enough time to make a quick change and bring on one of his trusted penalty takers.
Then all of a sudden FC Bracknell got a corner. With one of the final chances of the game, the ball fell to the FC Bracknell captain Maeya who passed the ball perfectly through two Shinfield defenders to Alice who cleverly dropped a shoulder and shimmied the ball to the right to create just enough space to have a shot which blasted into the bottom left corner.
With seconds left, FC Bracknell took their striker off for an extra defender and was able to hold off one last Shinfield attack. The final whistle went and F Bracknell were crowned once again the Berkshire county girls Cup winners.
