A HORTICULTURAL group will go ahead with their spring show, despite climate change affecting the dates when flowers bloom.
California Gardeners Club faced a dilemma when choosing the date of their Spring Show this year.
“It’s not easy to choose a suitable weekend,” said show officer Sylvia Hawes.
“We thought that around now would be a time when the daffodils would be at their best.
“But unfortunately, the comparatively warm and very wet winter we have just had, means the daffodils have flowered really early this year.”
Held on a Sunday; the event needed to avoid Mothering Sunday and Easter Sunday.
But the group has also had to consider the closure of California crossroads, which has affected many Finchampstead residents and groups in recent months.
“The silver lining is, however, that there should be some colourful tulips ready to take centre stage about now, along with floral arrangements, and domestic and handicraft displays,” added Ms Hawes.
California Gardeners Club members are keeping their fingers crossed that exhibitors will bring not only lots of bright tulips, but also some late flowering daffodil varieties to delight visitors.
There will also be a tombola, plant and garden supplies stalls, and homemade cakes in the café area.
The event takes place at California Ratepayers Hall, Finchampstead, on Sunday, April 7.
Doors open to the public at 2.30pm.
