What was once one of Wokingham’s most popular cafes has been listed for auction.
The Lay By Cafe on London Road regularly attracted rave reviews in the 1970s and 1980s for its food and service before being transformed into its current guise as a three-bedroom maisonette with a ground floor commercial space.
The property changed hands for £139,000 in June 1997, and for £278,500 in December 2001. It was last offered for sale by Wokingham auction house Martin & Pole in May 2019 with a guide price of £500,000. At that time it was being sold as a going concern as a restaurant with associated residential space.
It is now being auctioned with an opening bid of £478,000 by north east auction house Pattinson Auctions.
The auction remains open until March 27.
