A GANG of men who attacked a man at a casino in Reading on 2015, which left the victim blind in one eye, have been sentenced.
The five men assaulted the victim in an unprovoked attack at the Grosvenor Casino, in Basingstoke Road, Reading, in the early hours of Saturday, December 19 2015. The men punched and kicked the victim in the head, leaving him with a serious injury to his eye. The 34-year-old victim subsequently lost vision in his eye.
A jury at Reading Crown Court found the five men unanimously guilty of affray, following a ten day trial last month, and they were all sentenced at the same court on Friday, August 4.
Jay Bennett, aged 43, of Hornbeam Drive, Earley, was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.
Thomas Nokes, aged 29, of Birch Green, Shinfield, was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.
Darren Parker, aged 44, of Rainbow Park, Winnersh, was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to undertake 200 hours unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.
Dominic Wiggins, aged 27, of Holyrood Close, Reading, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.
James Wyatt, aged 26, of Managua Close, Reading, was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to undertake 200 hours unpaid work and pay £2,000 compensation.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Holly Stothard of Force CID based at Reading police station, said: “This was a deplorable attack on the victim who has been left blind in one eye.
“The actions of these five men on Saturday 19 December 2015 have had a life-changing impact on the victim so I am pleased they were found guilty by a jury.”
