A NORREYS group that meets during the school holidays to eat and enjoy activities together, celebrated Christmas with a party and disco.
The Grub Club supports families in the school holidays who would normally access free school meals.
Thanks to a grant from Wokingham United Charities, party organisers were able to add extra fun and Christmas goodies to the event.
Sharon Bailey, said: “We try to put on a fun Christmas party every year for our families, including a DJ and disco, Father Christmas, balloon modelling, and party food.
“This year, thanks to the Christmas Cheer grant we were able to add extra fun in the form of an inflatable rodeo reindeer.
“It entertained kids of all ages, as well as a few adults.
“It was really funny, and people were queueing up all evening to have a go.”
Sharon says that the group was also able to give every family at the party a bag filled with festive goodies as they left.
“Each bag had luxury Christmas items like a panetone cake, gingerbread, Christmas pudding and sweets – the sort of things that are expensive but which make the festive time special,” she explained.
Five Grub Club families also received a £50 Tesco voucher to help cover the holiday period.
“Without the Christmas Cheer grant, the party would still have taken place,” she said, “But it would have been much more basic.
“Instead, we were able to provide the rodeo, the family hamper bags, and the special vouchers.
“On behalf of all our families, we’d like to thank Wokingham United Charities.
“Every penny they gave us went to the families.”
