ROGER HERRIDGE says Binfield’s midweek defeat at Abingdon was the worst performance his side have produced since he took charge over four years ago.
The Moles travelled to Oxfordshire to face a team with one draw and seven defeats in their past eight matches and sitting third from bottom of the table, but they were completely outplayed.
The hosts led 3-0 at half-time thanks to a Callum Harvey brace and Thomas Butler strike and sealed a 4-0 win midway through the second period when Harvey completed his hat-trick.
“Time for reflection,” said boss Herridge.
“Without doubt the worst 90 minutes of my tenure and there have been some bad ones in that time. Poor on every level.
“But (we’ve) been here before and bounced back. At the moment we look (like) a side void of any confidence and energy.
“Won’t be a quick fix, but let’s see what the next few weeks bring.”
Herridge was dealt a blow in the build-up to the game with first choice goalkeeper Chris Grace recalled by parent club Bracknell Town, following a weekend injury to their regular stopper Mark Scott.
That meant youngster Sonny Wheeler took over between the sticks in one of four changes from the cup defeat at Wantage Town on Saturday. Carlo Santoro and Jeff Brown also started with Eddie Lee and Liam Gavin dropping to the bench, while new signing Damien Smith replaced the suspended Gary Smith.
The Moles, seeking a first win in four matches to propel themselves up to eighth in the table, fell behind early on when Harvey fired in.
Butler soon added a second with Harvey striking again just before half-time to give Binfield a mountain to climb.
Herridge turned to his bench soon after the restart with Josh Howell and Lee replacing Santoro and Carl Withers, but the changes did not have the desired effect with Harvey netting his third as Binfield succumbed to their heaviest defeat of the season.
The club’s chairman Bob Bacon also took to Twitter, saying: “Shoddy performance. Nothing to be proud about that. Saturday is another day.”
The Moles lie 10th in the table and go to Bishop’s Cleeve on Saturday (3pm) before welcoming Virginia Water to Hill Farm Lane on Monday night (7.45pm).
