Huddersfield Town 0-0 Reading: Royals stay just outside play-off places with goalless draw

Reading FC stay just outside the League One play-off places after they earned an away point at promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town.

An uneventful contest saw neither side able to come up with a winning goal as the points were shared which puts Reading in 7th place on 45 points from 29 games.

Reading were looking for consecutive wins following their impressive victory over Bolton Wanderers last weekend.

There was a place on the bench for new loan signing Billy Bodin who joined from Burton Albion on deadline day, while defender Amadou Mbengue returned from injury to make the bench.

Reading were put under plenty of pressure throughout the first-half as the hosts constantly knocked on the door to try and find an opener, but were unsuccessful in their pursuit.

Mbengue was forced into action earlier than was probably expected after experienced defender Harlee Dean had to be withdrawn with an ankle injury just before the break.

With the deadlock still yet to be broken more than an hour into the contest, Noel Hunt made a switch which saw Kelvin Ehibhatiomah take the place of Jayden Wareham up top to try and change the dynamic of the match.

However, it continued to be a drab affair with a distinct lack of quality in the final third as neither side did enough to be rewarded in attack.

The Terriers did come close to going in front with 10 minutes to go when a short corner was set back for Josh Koroma who hit a fierce strike which was parried by Pereira before DIon Charles headed wide on the rebound

It was then Reading’s turn to go close when Ehibhatiomhan latched onto Lewis Wing’s pass only to see his shot hit a Huddersfield body.

Pereira was called into late action to keep out Freddie Ladapo’s late low drive which was the final action with the points shared.
