A BOROUGH bowling organisation will open its doors, and its green, to visitors in May.
People interested in trying out the sport can have a go at Hurst Bowling Club.
The group has a long and illustrious history, and its patron is Baroness Theresa May.
Established in 1747, it is believed to be the second oldest bowling club in the country, and was possibly even created for King Charles I.
Ronnie Ashley, the group’s fundraiser, says the club is keen to welcome new players to its open day.
She said: “Do come along and try this much loved, underrated and challenging sport.
“It’s for all ages, from eight to 88, and such a friendly club.”
Bowling, says the group, is sociable, healthy, and if desired, competitive.
At the open day, visitors will receive a free guided taster session.
They will be able to use the club’s equipment, but need to come wearing flat shoes or trainers.
“You can be sure of a warm welcome,” said Ronnie, “with tea and biscuits, and a 50% reduction on club membership fees on the day.”
The event will take place at Hurst Bowling Club, adjacent to Castle Inn, Hurst, on Saturday, May 3, from noon until 6pm.
To book a taster session on the open day, people should call Nicola, on: 07749 826565.
