A crowd of about 100 people cheered on the runners in the David Cliff Wokingham Half Marathon as they went past the Hinton Road/Wokingham Road junction in the middle of Hurst.
Competitor in about 40 half marathons, Kenny Heaton, a development manager from Woodley, was supported by his wife Katherine and children Naomi, nine, and James, six.
Kenny, who belongs to Reading Roadrunners, put his time at 1.25.24, a personal best.
After a refreshing shower, he said: “I was quite pleased with the personal best. I feel fine, pretty good.
“It was great seeing the kids halfway through the race. It helps. They’re such good supporters. From a very young age, they’ve been coming to races.”
The family kept up their applause for other competitors as well.
The children do park runs on Saturdays and Sundays, and Naomi got a personal best the previous day when she took part in the weekly event.
