CEO of a Wokingham children’s cancer charity Sarah Simpson is appealing to people everywhere in the borough to turn their social media pages blue by posting pictures of anything related to the colour.
Blue was the favourite colour of Sarah’s young son, Ollie, who died in 2012 just before his sixth birthday, having been diagnosed just weeks before with a childhood brain tumour.
In his memory, Ollie’s family set up the Ollie Young Foundation, dedicated to raising funds for research into finding a prevention and cure for the condition.
Sarah said: “Please join us throughout the month of February as we remember Ollie by wearing his favourite colour – blue.
His anniversary (26) and birthday (27) are both in February, so we celebrate this month for him, and have aptly named it #feBLUEary.
“To get involved we invite people to wear something blue, change their social media profile blue, make something blue, or even sing the blues…the possibilities are endless.
“We’d love to see whatever creative things you get up to in his memory, so please do send us your pictures and we’ll post them up – thank you.”
Over the years, people have taken part in a range of fun events for the charity, including work blue dress down days, and hosting blue cake sales.
Pictures can be emailed to: [email protected] or people can tag the charity in their posts.
Ollie would have been 19 this year.
His foundation has so far raised more than £813,000 for research into childhood brain cancer.
