Wokingham Horticultural Association members met at the Bradbury Centre on Tuesday, March 12 to hold their AGM which was attended by President Jenny Gilbert and Vice President, Cllr Julian McGhee-Sumner – our Town Mayor.
Two new members were welcomed onto the committee and they – Rachael Burrows and Nicholas Hills – were congratulated on the work they have already done creating a new WHA website.
After the business meeting, David Putt (Project Manager) gave an inspirational illustrated talk about his work at the six-acre Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare (JHCL).
We were amazed to learn of the diversity both of the volunteers and of the individual projects at the site, which include a 400-tree orchard, vineyard, sensory garden and polytunnel.
Although sited between Bracknell and Maidenhead groups come from further afield to volunteer and benefit from the opportunity to learn, share and develop skills whilst maintaining a sustainable environment.
It is a safe place for those with disabilities, both mental and physical.
If you catch sight of a bunny rabbit on the web pages, email Rachael and Nick at [email protected] mentioning the page you found the bunny on, to be in with a chance of winning a surprise gift at the next talk.
This will take place on Tuesday, April 9 from 7.30pm for 7.45pm at the Bradbury Centre, Rose Street.
Our guest speaker Roger Cansdale will give us some history and show us slides of Basingstoke Canal.
The charge for non-members is £3 to include tea/coffee and biscuit.
More details can be found on the pages of the website www.w-h-a.org.uk.
