Wokingham Borough Council has confirmed it has received interest from a number of parties who have expressed interest in the Cantley Park cafe and pavilion.

Last month, it confirmed it would cease operating the cafe.

At that time Cllr Ian Shenton, executive member for environment, sport and leisure, said: “We’re disappointed that we will be closing the café at Cantley Park, but it is running at a loss, usage is low and we are unable to ensure opening hours align with the other facilities provided in the park.”

The cafe, along with the space above, was recently marketed for sale or lease by the council’s property agents, but the property is now no longer being listed.

A spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council told Wokingham Today: “Our position is still the same as per our statement on March 12.

“We are considering wider opportunities for the use of the building and other opportunities to provide catering that are financially more sustainable.

“We recently marketed the unit, and a number of businesses indicated they are interested in moving into Cantley park.

“These details are commercially sensitive, and discussions are ongoing.

“Once the legal process is complete, we will have a better idea of time scales regarding closing the café.”
