A JUNIOR borough cyclist from Woodley will shortly be setting off for Paris on his bike.
He would love borough children to join his journey – virtually.
Dexter Rosier’s 230 mile ride is a fundraising adventure of a lifetime, to support Sport in Mind, Fanconi Hope, and Wheelpower.
Aiming to arrive in the French capital in time for the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, the 12 year old is setting out from the borough on August 25.
He invites other youngsters, and not-so-youngsters to join him on his charity mission by cycling, walking, running or perhaps even hopping with him virtually.
He said: “The Woodley to Paris bike ride is not only a personal challenge for me but also an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Sport in Mind, Wheelpower and Fanconi Hope. “I have already demonstrated tremendous dedication to my training, and I believe that this journey will not only showcase my resilience but also inspire others to pursue their dreams, whatever their age.
“My three charities are close to my heart.
“I have personally benefited from the Sport in Mind youth services during a period where my own mental health had declined.
“Fanconi Hope is a charity that has directly supported my school form tutor’s son, so I want to give back.
“And Wheelpower was a charity that was shared with me by my cycling trainer Dave Covey who will be accompanying me on the ride.
“As soon as the cause was explained to me I felt moved by it.”
Dexter wants everyone to get active and feel the benefits of moving, by joining him virtually on his journey.
He invites borough children to sign up to his online challenge – walking, running, cycling or choosing their own way to move, to help him on his way.
If enough people add their miles, Dexter’s journey will be matched mile for mile all the way to Paris or further.
The suggested minimum donation to register is £5.
