BIKES that haven’t seen the light of day for months may enjoy an airing in June.
Families will be taking to the roads on two, and possibly even three, wheels to take part in Wokingham Bikeathon.
There are four routes to choose from this year:
A Short 15 mile route will take cyclists on a loop north of Wokingham, taking in quiet lanes and countryside views.
It should suit families and those new to cycling.
A medium route of 25 miles is a step up from the short route, and a little more challenging.
A further long route of 35 miles is described as being ideal for people who have been building up their cycling distance.
It takes people as far north as Crazies Hill, and takes in Hurst and Bracknell.
And for the really adventurous, a new 51 mile route will encompass Henley, picking up Bracknell, Twyford and Sonning along the way.
People can cycle at their own speed or alongside their friends and families, and there are drink and snack stops on all the courses, offering a chance to take a rest, pick up a snack and chat with other riders.
Rides start and finish close to Wokingham town centre, where there are plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants to refuel afterwards.
The event starts on Twyford Road, near Cantley Park, and takes place on Sunday, June 23.
Cyclists must register to enter.
Registration costs £20 for adults, with an optional extra sustainable medal for £3.
Children aged 12 to 17 can register for £5, or if accompanied by a paying adult, they enter free of charge.
Youngsters under 12 enjoy free entry and receive a free sustainable medal.
The organisers want to remove barriers to cycling and don’t want financial reasons to prevent anyone from taking part.
Anyone unable to pay for any reason is invited to contact: [email protected] to discuss options.
Registration remains open until noon on Thursday, June 20.
