A GROUP of amphibians looking for a home in the borough think they may have found the perfect place.
Frogs have taken up residence, rather appropriately perhaps, in a children’s trampoline.
A borough resident out walking her dog in the Finchampstead beauty spot noticed the creatures enjoying a large pool of water where recent heavy rain has gathered on the trampoline.
Keen to protect them, the nature lover posted online to let families know, and suggested that little human jumpers visiting the play equipment at California Country Park might be asked to take care not to accidentally harm their froggy companions as they bounce.
“The frogs seem to be stuck there, because the way the trampoline is made makes it difficult for them to get out,” she explained, and said she would alert park rangers.
In Britain, common frogs usually hibernate on land rather than under water.
They like to hide underground, sometimes in another animal’s burrow, or inside a structure on the ground, such as a compost heap or, in this case, a trampoline.
Wokingham Borough Council’s Countryside Service team is responsible for the park, and has been asked about the well-being of the amphibians.
It seems the frogs are fine, and that there is no reason to leap into action.
A council spokesperson confirmed: “The frogs live there.
“They get in and out from under the trampoline by tunnels, and our teams monitor them regularly to make sure they’re okay.”
The frogs are evidently not newt to the area, and very hoppy where they are.
But it won’t do any harm for children to be careful where they put their feet if they do enjoy bouncing on the trampoline.
