THE first week of June is National Volunteers Week.
It is a chance to thank volunteers, highlight the valuable contributions they make, and to encourage even more people to get involved.
Wokingham Volunteer Centre thanks each and every individual who gives up their valuable time to help.
The centre will be holding two events to help people connect with a charity and to help make a difference in their community.
Whether it’s encouraging a school child to read, chatting to an isolated older person, helping at a Guide or Scout group, sorting donations for families in crisis, driving someone to an essential medical appointment or assisting with shopping, volunteers are a critical and essential part of local charities.
Helena Badger, volunteer services manager at the Wokingham Volunteer Centre, said: “It really does change people’s lives; both those who volunteer and those who are helped by them.
“Volunteering can help you gain new skills, meet new people, test the water for a career change, allow you to give something back, and to support a cause you really believe in.”
“If you can give a couple of hours per week (or more) and are keen to make a difference in your local community, please contact the Wokingham Volunteer Centre.”
The centre will also be holding Volunteer Fairs during Volunteers Week, at
Crowthorne Library on Tuesday June 3, from 10am until noon, and at
All Saints Church, Wokingham on Thursday June 5, also from 10am until noon.
Both events are open to anyone who would like to find out more about volunteering in their local community.
