License plans have been given the all clear to open a brand new brewery in a Wokingham trading estate.
Bearwood Brewery plans to sell ‘hoppy IPAs, luxury stouts, fruity sours once it is ready to open at Unit 11 in Anglo Industrial Park in Fishponds Road, off MOlly Millars Lane.
The team behind the new operation is made up of John Willatts, Max Baylis, Christian Cummings and Peter Rhodes from The Outhouse Brewery in Wokingham town centre.
They had applied to sell alcohol on and off the premises from 8am to 11pm each day, and the application was recently discussed by the council’s licensing sub-committee.
Bearwood Brewery was represented by Bill Donne of Silver Fox Licensing Consultants, who revealed that the application had been substantially amended prior to the meeting.
A request that would have allowed the venue to host entertainment and live music until midnight was removed.
They also agreed that the venue will have no external seating, enact a Challenge 25 age verification policy, and have a ban of children on-site after 9pm.
The brewery will be allowed to play recorded music in the background.
Discussions were complicated by the fact that Bearwood Brewery requires planning permission to use the unit as a brewery, which the company does not currently possess. It will need to apply for a change of use for the property.
However, Mr Donne reminded the committee that it can only determine the application on licensing grounds, with planning considerations being a separate issue.
The committee granted the application for alcohol sales in a decision that was issued on Tuesday, July 1.
