IT LOOKS like a recipe for disaster – two main roads around Lower Earley closed at once – but Wokingham Borough Council is seeking to reassure residents it will all be OK.
From Monday, June 17, Lower Earley Way will be closed for two days between Mill Lane and Meldreth Way. This is to allow for resurfacing works to take place.
At the same time, Rushey Way is also due to be resurfaced.
Residents have expressed concerns on social media about the plans, worried they would be trapped in the neighbourhood for the duration of the works.
But following an investigation by Wokingham Today, the council said the works are being carefully planned.
A Wokingham Borough Council spokesperson said: “Our surface dressing programme takes place on over 50 roads over the next week.
“Closures will be in place during the works, which generally take around two to three hours each.
“The closures will not take place at the same time.
“The team carrying out the works will complete one road before re-opening it and moving on to the next.”
The resurfacing works come ahead of electrical works further down Kilnsea Drive.
Starting on Wednesday, June 19, temporary traffic lights will be installed while the council’s contractors carry out works to maintain on-street electrical equipment.
Thames Water will also be working in the area: on Monday and Tuesday in Ryhill Way, again temporary traffic lights will be in place.
Works can be seen on Wokingham Borough Council’s one.network map.
