Enthusiasm for EVs was charged by an electric vehicle awareness event in Wokingham.
People keen to find out more about owning an EV came in their droves to an awareness event held on Wokingham’s Elms Field.
Visitors were offered information and the chance to inspect latest EV models.
Organised by Let’s Experience Electric, with support from Wokingham Borough Council (WBC), Wokingham Town Council, and Bracknell Forest Council, the event was designed to answer people’s questions about owning and running an EV.
Organisers say it was a huge success, with hundreds of people showing up.
WBC’s EV Charging Strategy says the council committed to supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable transport future, and that EVs play an important role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from transport, improving air quality and tackling climate change.
Its rollout of 44 EV chargepoints around the borough, installed with Government funding, is now in line for an award.
In competition with other finalists Hackney Council, Southwark Council, Manchester City Council, and Highland Council, Wokingham Borough Council is hoping to be recognised at this year’s Transport and Energy Awards 25 for Best Local Authority EV Charging Scheme.
The award will be presented to the council that has implemented an electric vehicle charging scheme delivering measurable and sustainable benefits to their community and the authority.
The council’s existing charge points were installed across the borough some time ago, with plans to roll out more than 460 additional chargepoints, again with Government funding.
