A NEW Wokingham initiative hopes to make the town plastic free.
Inspired by the national campaign Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and its efforts to combat plastic pollution, a group of borough residents has launched a new scheme to help people living and working in Wokingham to move towards becoming a plastic-free community.
The group, all members of People, Planet, Pint, Wokingham (PPP), has secured a small grant from the town council.
Their mission is to raise awareness about the environmental impact of single-use plastics, and to begin a community-wide campaign for a cleaner, greener Wokingham.
With this support, the group plans to engage local businesses, schools, and residents to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable alternatives.
People, Planet, Pint, Wokingham offers people an opportunity to connect with others interested in sustainable living.
Members from all walks of life meet monthly to enjoy a drink together in a Wokingham Pub, while sharing environmental concerns, ideas, and stories.
Meetings are free to attend, and take place at The Rose Inn, Wokingham.
The group is currently looking for like-minded people to volunteer and become part of the new plastic free Wokingham initiative.
For information, people can email: joanna.mm.jones@gmail.com or sbouchedevitray@gmail.com
The group’s first plastic-free initiative event will be at SustainFest, which will be held at Holme Grange School on Friday, June 20.
The next meeting of PPP will take place at the Rose Inn, on Thursday, July 3, from 6pm.
