Wokingham borough council’s ruling executive has approved changes that will see a new nursery facility opening at a Twyford school.
At last week’s meeting, Cllr Prue Bray, executive councillor for children’s services, noted there is an existing pre-school facility at Colleton primary school that is run by a small charity.
She said the school and the charity had reached agreement that the nursery provision would be best placed at the primary school.
There had been public consultation on this matter, and no objections or issues had been raised.
It was noted the fundamental change would be in the age of admission, from the existing four to 11 to two to 11.
The meeting was told that from the school’s perspective, this would be very positive, particularly given that many junior schools faced challenges with falling roles. This would give the school a potential for extra pupils coming through.
The executive approved the change in age range to enable the opening of a 52-place nursery provision.
