A WOKINGHAM church is delighted to soon be welcoming a new rector, appointed to lead the parishioners.
St Paul’s, St Nicholas’s and Woosehill churches, all part of St Paul’s Parish, look forward to getting to know Father Sam in August.
Writing to his new congregation and community prior to his arrival, he said: “I am delighted to be your new Rector and excited to join you in August.
“I look forward to the work and ministry ahead and, most of all, to getting to know you.”
The Reverend Sam Korn was raised mainly in South Wales and came to faith as a teenager in a church similar to St Paul’s.
After studying theology at Cambridge, and at the World Council of Churches study centre in Geneva, he was ordained in St Albans in 2014.
His first post was as curate of a church in Barnet, North London, then serving as a vicar in Aintree, on the edge of Liverpool.
For the past six years he has held two roles: as chaplain of a large comprehensive school in Islington, and as assistant priest at St Mary’s, Bourne Street, Westminster.
“I have a particular interest in working with children and young people, as well as in worship and thoughtful preaching,” he said.
“And outside church life, I enjoy cooking, country walks, going to the theatre and opera, and watching cricket.
“In August, shortly before I arrive in Wokingham, I will be getting married – so there is a lot to be excited about this summer.
“I look forward to meeting you all and to beginning this new chapter together.”
Father Sam will be installed and inducted on Thursday, August 28, at St Paul’s Church.
