A RETAILER is progressing with plans for a new supermarket as part of the Arborfield District Centre.
The proposed Sainsbury’s, located to the northeastern corner of the Nine Mile Ride Extension, received positive responses in its public consultation and is now preparing to submit a reserved matters planning application to Wokingham Borough Council, detailing the layout, appearance and landscaping of the new store.
Plans suggest that the store will create around 75 new jobs.
Sainsbury’s property director, Patrick Dunne, said: “We’re excited to be taking the next steps in our plans to invest in a fantastic new supermarket in Arborfield Green, generating new jobs and improving shopping choice for local people.
“Everyone at Sainsbury’s is passionate about the food we sell, including not only our colleagues but our suppliers, farmers and fishing partners too – we’d be delighted to bring some of that passion to the local community in Arborfield.”
The 16,000 square foot supermarket will also feature a Click & Collect service, giving customers an easy and convenient way to order products online from brands such as Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing for collection while picking up their groceries.
Sainsbury’s have said that staff at the store will “actively work to make a positive difference in Arborfield Green” through charity and community initiatives.
