A 9-year-old boy from Woosehill, Wokingham has been on a mission to raise money for charity by running 5k every day throughout the Easter holidays.
Gene Coleman has been lacing up his running shoes to raise money for Lonely Orphans Charity and so far has collected more than £515.
Gene said: ““I thought it would be easy as pie, but as it turns out it wasn’t so much!
“I broke my arm playing football before the holidays but luckily that didn’t stop me running. I ran in forests, roads, on the beach, round and round and round a field when visiting family, and on the treadmill.
“My hardest moment was day 5 when my legs felt weak, I had a stitch and there seemed to be such a long way to go. After that I felt better, although on around day 12 my feet cracked open and I had to do the last few days with my feet strapped up.”
Gene’s mum, Claire, added“I’m so proud of him. He’s never done anything like this before, he was just inspired to do something to raise money for charity.
“Having done 5k a day for 16 days – no one could ever say he’s lazy that’s for sure! I went with him some days and struggled to keep up, it was like running with the Duracell bunny. His top speed was 15.8km per hour – I had no chance!”
