Wokingham Borough Council has confirmed that no parking enforcement tickets will be issued after a woman suffered a fall and her family’s car was briefly driven into a no parking area to help.
Posting to social media after the incident close to the Gig House off Denmark Street last weekend, the woman said the parking enforcement officer said “I don’t care” when her husband and son asked the officer to consider the circumstances.
She said: “I am completely disgusted with the uncaring and pedantic approach.
“If we had called an ambulance, would the officer have issued a ticket to them?”
The woman was taken to the accident and emergency department at Frimley Park, and subsequently the minor injuries facility in Bracknell.
After highlighting the issue to the council, Cllr Paul Fishwick, executive member for active travel, transport and highways, told Wokingham Today: “I would like to apologise to the woman involved in this incident and her family.
“We are sorry for any distress that this will have caused and hope that she makes a full recovery from her injury.
“For a parking warden to behave in this way is completely unacceptable.
“We expect our partner contractor enforcement officers to uphold high standards of courtesy and professionalism when dealing with the public and they fell very short of that expectation on this occasion.
“We are taking action to prevent it happening again, and will be working with our partner contractor enforcement team to review their training and improve the way they interact with our residents.
“I would like to assure everybody that we take complaints of this kind very seriously and we thank our residents for bringing these issues to our attention.”
