Entries have opened for the Mayor’s Honour Awards 2026.
Wokingham residents are being encouraged to nominate individuals and groups who have made an exceptional contribution to the borough.
The award scheme is open to adults, young people and community groups. Each year there are up to six adult/group awards and six junior awards given out by Wokingham borough’s mayor.
This year, mayor, Cllr Carol Jewell, is looking for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the borough, whether they are a resident, individual, group or serving Wokingham borough council employee.
She said: ““It is wonderful to learn about those in our community who are making a difference..
“No deed is too small for a nomination. What might be an ordinary action to you could actually be a great example of dedication and selflessness – the very qualities we’re looking to celebrate.
“If you know someone who deserves recognition, write to us, and they could be selected.
“I look forward to reading your nominations.”
Individuals can submit nominations by emailing [email protected] with who they are putting forward for the award and why, in up to 100 words, along with their contact details.
Examples of nominated people can include fosterers, volunteers, carers, teachers and employees.
Submissions close on January 1, 2026, when the mayor will review the nominations.
Once Cllr Jewell has selected the recipients of the award they will be informed and invited to an event next year, where they will be given their awards.
Individual recipients will be presented with a lapel badge and certificate, and group recipients will receive a shield and certificate.
Examples of previous recipients include a man who had devoted 15-20 hours weekly to help his local foodbank, a tenant volunteer with Wokingham Borough Council who has 22 years of service – making him the longest serving Tenant Volunteer, and an individual who had set up a charity to help neurodivergent young people find work.
