It’s open! Motorists this morning have finally been able to use the first new road around Wokingham’s town hall after a section of Broad Street was completed last night.
And Langborough Road has also re-opened and is now two-way again.
But Denmark Street has been closed to traffic to enable the workforce to start laying the new York stone road in place there.
Broad Street’s re-opening was delayed because of the volume of issues underground that have had to be repaired and rectified. It is now expected that the project will be complete in July.
Cllr Keith Baker, Wokingham Borough Council executive member for highways and transport, said: “We understand the stress and frustration these works have caused and we apologise for the disturbance to people lives and businesses.”
Next month, the main area of Market Place will re-open and the market will be moved back.
Then, in early May the area in front of Broad Street shops completed, with the Denmark Street carriageway works completed in June.
By mid-July, Market Place and Denmark Street shop fronts will be completed.
