A GROUP of fundraisers went on a pub crawl with a different on Saturday – they were all dressed as part of a man’s anatomy.
The Willy Waddle started in Reading pub The Alehouse, taking in several different boozers before returning to their local for a well-earned drink. A plan to end at Bingham’s Taproom in Twyford failed as the team were too popular in the Reading venues and they wouldn’t have made it before last orders.
On their way, the jolly John Thomases collected coins for the male cancer charity Orchid.
The fun team also helped raised awareness for this year’s Twyford Beer Festival.
This is the tenth year that the event will be held and it will be in a new location – Twyford Parish Council has agreed that it can move to Stanlake Meadow Recreation Ground off Waltham Road and within walking distance of the village’s train station.
Organiser Ian Wisdom said: “This is our 10th year of running the Beer Festival and so far we have managed to send more than £60,000 to the Orchid Charity.”
As well as real ale from local breweries, there will be ciders, perries, food and live music. All proceeds go to Orchid, which specialises in testicular, prostate and penile cancers.
Mr Wisdom added that the event is run completely by volunteers and more are needed to make this year’s anniversary festival, which runs on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8, the best yet.
“All the team you see at the event are giving their time for free – from the people you meet at the gate, the great team pouring the beer and, of course, the members of the bands playing.
“Every one of us give a significant amount of their time to help put this event on. Without them – no festival, simple as that. We always need more helpers so if you have a bit of time and want to join our happy crew then please let me know.”
