Oxford United are preparing a renewed move for Reading FC midfielder Charlie Savage after having an initial offer rejected earlier this week.
The Championship club previously approached Reading with a bid believed to be in the region of £500,000, but that proposal was turned down by the Royals.
Oxford remain keen on the 22-year-old and are expected to test Reading’s resolve with an improved offer as they look to strengthen their midfield options during the January transfer window.
Savage, the son of former Wales international Robbie Savage, has been a regular presence in the Reading side and is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable young assets. He has made vital contributions this campaign and has started all but one of Reading’s League One matches this season.
Any potential deal would see Manchester United receive a large portion of any transfer fee having inserted a significant sell-on clause in Savage’s when contract when he departed Old Trafford to join Reading in the summer of 2023.
