Plans have been submitted that, if approved, will see more facilities for what has been described as the country’s fastest grown sports.
Bracknell Rugby Club has submitted an application to Bracknell Forest Borough Council for permission to create three padel courts on unused land adjacent to the clubhouse at its Lily Hill Drive home.
The plans state the courts will include artificial grass, and LED lighting with eight spotlights specially designed for padel courts.
Notes from the planning agent as part of the application said the development will: “.. benefit the local community by affording both paid and free of charge access to a highly inclusive sport that is otherwise unavailable in the county.”
The club was founded in 1955 and is a well-established rugby union club competing in Regional 1 South Central (tier 5). It boasts a ground with a capacity of around 1,250 spectators.
Lily Hill Park is a 23-ha heritage parkland owned by Bracknell Forest Council, featuring formal gardens, woodland, historic paths, EV charging, and public recreational facilities.
Planning agents said: “We believe that introducing padel to over 700,000 people that currently don’t have access to what is widely considered the world’s fastest growing sport , in their home county is a must.”
Officers at Bracknell Forest borough council are currently considering the plans.
