The issue of parking machines was raised during public questions at last week’s full council meeting.
Charles Hockin said: “I reported a parking anomaly to parking services on May 4, 2024.
“The anomaly is that my bank statement shows that I parked in a different location than I actually did.
“This caused confusion, and made me think of a possible fraud taking place.
“To date I have not received any answer to why this is happening and what the council has done about it.”
He said that his banking app showed he had parked in Woodley when he had actually parked in Denmark Street.
“It might sound trivial, but if you’re in a serious domestic dispute and need evidence, it could be useful.”
Replying, Cllt Stephen Conway said: “I want to apologise for the confusion that this matter is clearly caused.
“Please be assured that this is most definitely not a fraud issue.
“It’s just a reporting error where the wrong car park has shown.
“Payments from all our car parks are centrally received and accounted for, with financial audits being undertaken by separate departments.
“Officers are aware of the issue you’ve raised, .. and I think we reported this matter to our merchant.bank suppliers for investigation.
“Unfortunately, this is an issue that the council is unable to resolve directly.
“We have recently spoken to our suppliers, and unfortunately they have as yet been unable to establish the cause of the issue.
“They have requested that we obtain further information from you to try and help them narrow down the cause.”
