FOLLOWING the success of two peer-to-peer bereavement support centres in the borough, a third is being launched in Finchampstead.
Grief Kind Spaces at Sheeplands Garden Centre in Hare Hatch, and Thatcham Garden Centre Restaurant, are now joined by a third drop-in session at Finchampstead Baptist Church, Finchampstead.
Carrie Connolly, Grief Kind Space Coordinator, said: “We have seen such an incredible impact from our Grief Kind Spaces in Thatcham and Reading.
“It is amazing to see people make connections and open up about their experiences of grief.
“Quite often people feel like they are a burden speaking about their grief to friends or family, but our sessons help to remove that feeling so people can talk, listen to others who might be experiencing the same as them, and gain support.
“I am delighted that we are able to offer this service to even more people as we open our new space in Wokingham borough, providing much needed support to anyone who is grieving.
“Almost every home in the UK has, or will experience, the loss of someone, but Sue Ryder’s research has found that 86% of people who had been bereaved said they felt alone in their grief.”
Grief Kind Spaces in Reading, Thatcham, and now Finchampstead, offer a free, friendly in-person drop-in session.
They provide a safe, welcoming and supportive place for anyone who has been bereaved to share their experiences of grief, helping them to feel heard and less alone.
Operated by national grief support charity Sue Ryder, they are are held in the local community and run by trained volunteers.
Sessions take place at Finchampstead Baptist Church every Wednesday, from 10am until noon, starting on May 29.
They are also held at Sheeplands Garden Centre, Hare Hatch, also on Wednesdays, from 10am until noon.
And at Thatcham Garden Centre Restaurant, a Grief Kind Space takes place on Tuesdays from 10am until noon.
There is no need to register beforehand – people can just drop in.
