A consultation has opened to consider outline planning consent for a Sainsbury’s supermarket on Nine Mile Ride Extension in Arborfield Green.
This latest application comes after permission for a food store was originally granted in 2015 as part of the overall development of Arborfield Green.
In its application Alder King, acting on behalf of Sainsbury’s, said: “The proposed foodstore will carry a wide range of primarily food and convenience items, as well as a small number of non-food essentials.
“With a retail sales area of 1,448 sqm, the store will be capable of meeting weekly main-food shopping needs for local residents, negating the need for them to travel to main-food shopping destinations outside of Arborfield.
“In addition, the store will have an Argos collection point enabling the fulfilment of online orders at Argos, Habitat and Tu, all part of the Sainsbury’s family of brands.
“The store will not have a coffee shop or counters, instead, all internal space will be devoted to in-aisle display of fresh and ambient foods.”
Some 115 car parking spaces will also form part of the development, including disabled, parent and child and electric vehicle charging spaces.
To date, all comments submitted alongside the application are in support of the plans.
John Anderson said: “Can’t wait for this to be built.“
David Williams added: “I strongly support this application, which will provide a much-needed local facility for residents.”
The consultation will run until December 19. More information can be found using application 232927 on Wokingham Borough Council’s planning portal.
