Think of all those picnics,
He must have endured:
“The food is make-believe ‘n’
I’m feeling … rather bored!”
But bear it … he did,
Without so much as a sigh,
His growl … had stopped working,
Nobody knew … quite why.
His face had more character
Than when he was new,
He’d acquired personality,
Piece by piece … from you …
Turning softer and smoother
As … tears … fell into his fur,
I couldn’t look him in the eye …
That kind of loss is hard to bear.
