THE MAN who designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress swapped fabrics for paper plates to celebrate the coronation.
David Emanuel visited the Bracknell North Tesco store in Warfield to judge a contest for younger shoppers aimed at finding the best-decorated coronation-themed plates.
The winning entries are now on display in the store’s foyer so everyone can admire the creativity.
He said he was impressed by an eye-catching Coronation dress made by Monika Taplin, as well as the crocheted post box topper created by Tracy Devlin.
And in keeping with the Coronation theme, the store had a glittering golden throne for people to sit in, wear a crown and have their photo taken.
David couldn’t resist being among the first to perch himself there for the camera.
Shoppers made a donation with proceeds went to three life-saving good causes – British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Cancer Research UK.
Amanda Eversden, community champion for the store, said: “David was so good to lend a hand to our Coronation celebrations. He really got involved and enjoyed himself.
“He loved being part of the patriotic spirit that we had throughout the store and was really impressed by all the creativity that had been put in by colleagues and the public to make the event extra special.
“We’re very grateful to our shoppers who supported our fundraising and gave so generously. They really did help us to make our Coronation events a huge success.”
In addition to the in-store Coronation celebrations, staff linked up with Warfield Environment Group to take part in a community-improving litter pick to mark the nationwide Big Help Out event.
